Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI)’s board of directors Investment Deputy Mr. Sultan Muhammad Safi, Khan Jan Alokozay member of the board of directors, Afghanistan Federation Chamber (ACF)’s Deputy and head of Mines and Industry Mr. Toor Malang Shegiwal, Deputy of Women Chamber Ms. Parwarish Oryakhel, Afghan economy representative Ms. Samina Wadeer, Afghan economic affairs in charge in Islamabad Mr. Bahram Muhammadi, and a number of traders of the country participated in the fifth cycle meeting of the Afghan – Pak Joint Chamber held in Islamabad.  

Sectorial heads of the Pakistani Ministries, headquarter of the Pakistani Customs, Presidents of the Karachi and Torkham ports, representatives of Pakistani parliament and central bank, and Commercial, Industry, and Women Chambers also participated in the aforementioned meeting.

Afghanistan and Pakistan Private Sectors representatives had a discussion about the following issues. (existing commercial and transit problems in Torkham and Ghulam Khan ports, changes in APTTA contract, Afghan trader’s banking problems in Pakistani banks, problems of transactions, the passing problems of the Afghan passengers from Torkham port, the delay of the Afghan merchandize in Pakistan during COVID-19 pandemic, problems in exports, interference of various Pakistani agencies in port affairs, employment of a female representative of the Women Chamber in the board of directors of the Joint Chamber, good relations of both country’s women chambers, and a number of technical problems.)

Pakistani Private Sector’s leadership promised that they would share all the concerning issues with the line departments of the Pakistani Government and will provide the Afghan – Pak Joint Chamber with information about the practical measures of the Pakistani Government.     

During this online event, both sides had a discussion about the existing challenges and opportunities in the private sector of Afghanistan and addressed the Geneva Conference as useful for the development of the economy of the country and insisted that the government of Afghanistan has to take advantage of such kind of opportunities.

Besides expressing their opinions and designs for the development of the economy of the country, they insisted that the government of Afghanistan has to create the required facilities for the investors and should strive to provide legal solutions for the problems of the investors of the country.

Agriculture and Livestock Minister H.E Anwarulhaq Ahadi, Afghan-American joint chamber’s head, and 170 representatives of the private sector participated in this online event.

ACCI’s CEO Mr. Sayed Zaman Hashimi represented the private sector and appreciated the financial support of the donor countries. He added that the private sector had to be added in the agenda of the Geneva Conference because it does not only strengthen the economy but also plays a vital role in bringing peace and security.

H.E Ahadi represented the Afghan government and said that financial support of the donor countries has a positive impact on both the Afghan economy and people and that this money should be used in rehabilitation and infrastructures of the country.

ACCI’s Policy and Technical Deputy Mr. Shafiqullah Atayee delivered a speech in an event organized for Selecting 10 Best Economic Schemes under the name of HULT PRIZE in the Polytechnic University of Kabul.

Mr. Atayee besides, appreciating the 10 best Economic Schemes of the students, insisted that the ACCI is committed to providing internships, financial and technical support to build the capacity of the students.

He hopes that the economic schemes of the students would play an active role in the economic growth and entrepreneurship of the country.

Kabul Polytechnic University’s leadership and private sector representatives put their own two cents in about the economic growth and trade in Afghanistan.

At the end of the event, students of the Polytechnic University of Kabul expressed their feelings of happiness and gratefulness for being praised by ACCI and the leadership of the university. Moreover, they said that their effective economic schemes would help the economy of the country to boost and improve.

On November/28/2020 16 students of the Jahan University received certificates of completion for their one-month internship session of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI).

In this academic gathering, the Policy and Technical Deputy of the ACCI Mr. Shafiqullah Atayee said, “ACCI besides facilitating trader’s and investor’s affairs, is committed to providing internships for the students in order to build their capacity and enable them to play an active role in the rehabilitation of Afghanistan.” He, furthermore, said that the private sector plays a vital role in the economic growth of the country.

Jahan University’s Chancellor and students appreciated the internship sessions provided by ACCI and asked for further attention in this regard.

Jahan University’s students say that these internship sessions can build their capacity at a high level and are quite useful for their academic and practical learnings.

ACCI’s Investment Deputy Mr. Sultan Muhammad Safi, Khan Jan Alokozay and Ahmad Zia Azimi Shenozada members of the board of directors traveled to Nangarhar Province in order to have a sound discussion with the regional representatives of the chamber and with the governor of Nangarhar Province H.E Zia-ul-haq Amarkhel about the existing problems and challenges in Torkham port.

ACCI’s board of directors said that commercial merchandise of the traders are delayed for so long in the customs of the country especially in Torkham port without any logical reasons and asked for the practical solutions for these problems.

Regional representatives of the Nangarhar chamber of commerce and investment said that delay of the commercial merchandise and bribery in Torkhan port are serious issues and asked both the Afghan and Pakistani governments to take measures in eliminating these problems and overcoming these challenges.

The governor of Nangarhar Province H.E Zia-ul-haq Amarkhel said that they have a systematic and well-organized plan for eliminating the existing problems in Torkham port.
