Takhar Holds Agribusiness and Handicrafts Exhibition

The Takhar Chamber of Commerce and Industries organized the third agribusiness and handicraft exhibition, which was hold at the Takhar Wedding Hall on the 26 September. The provincial chamber was supported by the Agha Khan Foundation (AKF), Mercy Corps, the German International Cooperation (GIZ) and Terre Des Hommes (TDH). The exhibition enabled 40 companies to showcase their products from the agricultural, handicrafts, jewelry and construction sectors. The companies came from Afghan provinces, such as Takhar, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Baghlan, Balkh and Nangarhar. More than 150 representatives of the business and donor community visited the inaugural ceremony.

The exhibition is perceived as a successful networking event bringing enterprises from different regions together. During the three days, 3820 people visited the exhibition. Total transactions exceeded 118.000 US-Dollar. The organizers aimed at providing a platform to promote local products, introduce new services and improve business linkages in Northern Afghanistan.

Feedbacks received from visitors and exhibitors indicate that over 70 percent were satisfied with the exhibition.

The preparation for the event started in June 2012 and TCCI presented its proposal to donors who active in the province. Finally the above mentioned donors agreed on the exhibition and provided a partial contribution to make the exhibition happen. The total expenditures covered 19.770 US-Dollar, to which AKF contributed 8.070 US-Dollar, Mercy Corps 8.300 US-Dollar, GIZ 3.100 US-Dollar and TDH 300 US-Dollar.
