Contracts for 24 Educational Projects Signed

Contracts for uplift 24 projects, costing 238 millions afghanis, were signed between Education Minister Dr. Farooq Wardak and representatives of different construction companies here on Saturday.

Wardak said the projects included 10 schools in Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Paktia, Ghor, Kunar and Kunduz provinces, two hostels in Kabul and Balkh and seven buildings for bookstores in Farah, Bamyan, Ghor, Wardak, Khost and Samangan.

He added the schemes -- financed by the World Bank, Indian and Danish governments -- would take one year to complete. The projects are aimed at providing education facilities for 13,000 students.

According to the minister, of 11,000 schools across Afghanistan, more than 5,500 have proper buildings while the rest are either housed in makeshift structure or operate without building.
