Afghan Private Sector Delegates in General Assembly of ECO CCI in Turkey

 

Following the official invitation of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of  Turkey  (TOBB)  and President of ECO Chamber of Commerce (ECO CCI) a delegation  headed by CEO of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) had the official visit to Turkey to attend the 10th General Assembly and 13th Executive Committee Meetings of ECO Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as in  the   expert   committees including Transit, Industrial and Investment Committees and Women Entrepreneurs Council of ECO CCI, 23-24 December, 2009.

According to the report of ACCI Public Relations, in the expert meetings of ECO CCI, different issues such as implementation of ECO Trade and Transit Framework Agreement (TTFA), development of TIR system between member countries, facilitating transit and transportation in the region, as well as the plan of activities of ECO CCI Women Entrepreneur Council for 2010 and areas of joint venture were explored and discussed.

According to this report, at the 13th Executive Committee Meetings of ECO CCI, officials of member Chambers and ECO CCI Secretariat approved the discussed issues.
ECO CCI in Turkey

The 13th Executive Committee Meetings of ECO CCI were held with the attendance of Presidents, Vice-presidents and representatives of Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Chambers of Commerce.

CEO of ACCI, "Mohammad Qurban Haqjo" pointed to the 10 years activities done by ECO CCI and its importance on development of regional cooperation, and emphasized on implementation of ECOTA and TTFA Agreements and holding ECO Business Forum on the sidelines of the Annual Meeting of ECO Economic and Commerce Ministers.


CEO of ACCI also called on simplification of customs, facilitating visa issuance for economic activists in the region and taking in to account the effective banking collaboration, noting that banking problem is one of the barriers for expansion of regional transactions. CEO of ACCI also emphasized on facilitating trade, attracting investments, addressing jointly the challenges, better utilizing of opportunities, bringing long term trust and sustainability and prosperity in the region, to make capacity development program jointly, to prioritize the sectors for investments and pay serious attention to mining, agriculture, transportation and logistics.

Constitution and framework of activities of ECO Women Entrepreneur Council were also approved in this meeting.

CEO of ACCI visited President and Members of Istanbul Chamber of Industry

CEO of ACCI also had a meeting with President, Board members and Board of representatives of Istanbul Chamber of Industry. Multilateral cooperation of the member chambers was emphasized.


The two sides also discussed regarding enhancement of joint manufacturing to meet the needs of their markets.


Transportation Executive Committee Meeting

Transportation Executive Committee Meeting of ECO was held with the presence of representatives from Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Chambers of Commerce and the representative of ECO Secretariat in Istanbul.

Head of Transportation Executive Committee of ECO pointed to the importance of TTFA Agreement in this meeting.

CEO of ACCI on behalf of the private sector of Afghanistan, "Mohammd Qurban Haqjo" also stated that Afghanistan’s suggestion is making effort to achieve ECO long-term objectives and using appropriate transit routes for solving ECO transportation problems.


First Industrial and Investment Expert Committee Meeting of ECO CCI

The first Industrial and Investment Expert Committee Meeting of ECO CCI was held with the attendance of representatives from the mentioned Chambers of Commerce and the representative of ECO Secretariat.

Head of Expert Industrial and Investment Committee of ECO emphasized on the importance of investment for achieving stable development and said we should utilize Turkey's experiences regarding development of industrial sector.

He also emphasized on accelerating implementation of ECOTA agreement.

CEO of ACCI also expressed his concerns regarding improvement of investment and development of industry through joint cooperation and collaborations.

It should be mentioned that encouraging ECO CCI member countries for accelerating implementation of APPI Agreement, compiling plans for exchanging experiences of member countries with the support of ECO regarding industrial regions and free trade zones, establishment of technological developing centers, privatization, and promotion of SMEs and improvement of investment with the cooperation of private sector were discussed in this meeting.
