The second monthly networking event of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries was held on nine August 2010
The event held in Kabul Serena Hotel was attended by the board of directors of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, H.E. Anwarolhaq Ahadi, minister of commerce and industries of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, high-ranking government officials, foreign guests and more than 150 businessmen and investors of the country. Such events are held by the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries on a monthly basis and a chief guest is invited there to deliver a speech about an important economic issue of the day.
The event begun with the welcome remarks of esteemed Sher Khan Farnood, chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries. He mentioned the achievements of the private sector in the new market economy system and asked for more cooperation of the government with the private sector.
In this networking event, H.E. Anwarolhaq Ahadi, minister of commerce and industries of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan was the chief guest and he talked about segregation of duties and responsibilities of the state and the private sector in market economy system. He discussed on the role and responsibilities of the government and the private sector in the market economy in a theoretical and academic manner. After that, esteemed minister of commerce and industries received questions of the participants of the event and answered them.
Chief Executive Officer of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Mohammad Qurban Haqjo also delivered a speech in the event and said, in accordance with the constitution the government and the private sector have their specific duties and responsibilities and they have to fulfill them. Haqjo added that the government was responsible of providing the internal and foreign private investors with a safe environment so that the private entrepreneurs will grow along with social welfare in the country.
He said that the private sector, in accordance with the constitution of the country, was responsible of supplying goods and providing services and if the government interferes in this regard and invests in the market, the private sector development will be faced with limitations. At the end of the program, Afghan and foreign investors and traders met with each other and they exchanged views. The goal behind this gathering was to discuss the problems faced by the private sector and to find solutions for these problems.
