ACCI Supports German Companies to Invest in Afghanistan

On July 10th, the leadership of the Afghan Chamber of Commerce & Industries met with a German business delegation in Kabul.  The Chamber presented information to the German delegation on the investment possibilities and organized face-to-face discussions with Afghan sector experts.

The German delegation was headed by Mr. Wendling from Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology.  He was accompanied by representatives of Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, German Trade and Investment Agency, and German Development Agency, GIZ.  German company representatives from sectors like energy, infrastructure, and information technology also participated in this event.

In his welcome speech ACCI Vice-Chairman, Mr. Khan Jan Alokozay noted the importance of foreign direct investment in the reconstruction of Afghanistan. He asked the German government and private sector to facilitate deeper economic relations between Afghanistan and Germany.  Mr. Alokozay mentioned that ACCI is ready to support German companies find Afghan business partners.

ACCI’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Atiqullah Nusrat informed the German delegation of the Chamber’s activities and highlighted ACCI’s role in supporting foreign companies in matchmaking events as well as the establishment of joint business relationships through foreign chamber affiliates.

During the event, company representatives from Germany met face-to-face with Afghan experts from various sectors. The discussions aimed to inform German companies on the different sector opportunities in Afghanistan.

This German business delegation was the first of its kind to visit Afghanistan. The head of delegation, Mr. Wendling promised that in the autumn of 2011, another business delegation will visit the country.
