ISO Certificates be Issued to Afghan Firms in First Time

Hexa Corps held a press conference on Wednesday 11 April 2012 in Serena Hotel to introduce ISO certificate. Mr. Hamidullah Faruqi, Kabul University Lecturer; Mr. Mohammad Qurban Haqjo, CEO of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI); Dr. Mujiburrahman Khatir, Deputy Head of Afghanistan National Standard Agency (ANSA); Abdul Karim Safi, representative of Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) and a number of Afghan entrepreneurs had participated in conference.

Hexa Corps is a Afghan consulting and certifying company which is contracted with JAZ-ANZ and IAR ASCB(E) accredited certification bodies for managing customer needs for certification to Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000, ISO 20000,ISO 22000, ISO 27000 and ISO 13485 and CMMI.

Some of the participants delivered speeches on the importance of the ISO and the problems that the lack of an accredited certification body causes in Afghanistan.

Mr. Haqjo, Chief Executive Officer of ACCI said that the ISO is too helpful in international trades. “All ISO certified goods are accepted as standard commodities in the world market,” said Mr. Haqjo. “165 countries have joined the ISO system and Afghanistan has introduced more than 19000 standards to ISO.”

Mr. Haqjo added that though it was not compulsory to accept the ISO but the in practice the market conditions force entrepreneurs to join this system.

According to Mr. Haqjo the Hexa Corps will help promote modern and standard administrative systems and “it also helps the companies to prepare their products compliance with the ISO standard.”

The ISO international certificate is given to companies that are practicing modern administrative tools and methods. The certificate is issued in following levels:

  1. ISO 9001
  2. ISO 14000
  3. OHSAS 18000
  4. ISO 20000
  5. ISO 22000
  6. ISO 27000
  7. ISO 13485
  8. CMMI

Mr. Samim Atayee, the president of the Hexa Corps said that his company is the first ever Afghan company which has received the ISO certificate. “Hexa Corps was working in logistics, transportation and press,” said Mr. Atayee.
